An assistant engineer of the Electricity Department posted in South Goa, Adrian Martins, was on Tuesday suspended and asked to remain present at the headquarters in Panaji pending further inquiry.
The suspension followed an order issued by the Department's vigilance cell and is directly related to the ongoing case of misappropriation of funds in the Aquem office.
Earlier last week, two employees — a lower division clerk (LDC) Rizwana Perviz and a head clerk (HC) Jose Sebastiano Fernandes — from the Aquem office were also suspended in the case of misappropriation of Rs 8 lakh collected as consumer bill payments in Chinchinim.
The malpractice reportedly dates back to June–July 2025 and was discovered during a random inspection of records.
Officials found that money was collected as payment of bills from consumers but was not deposited in the designated bank account as mandated.
