Panaji police have written to the Transport Department seeking suspension of the driving licence of Jagdish Sardesai, who was arrested for rash and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol after allegedly crashing his speeding BMW into several vehicles on Tuesday night.

Sardesai was released after paying a bond of Rs 75,000.

“We have sent a proposal to the Transport Department to suspend the licence of the 27-year-old. A strong case has been made for suspension of his licence,” the source said.

No injuries were reported in the incident. However, police said CCTV footage showed the BMW being driven at high speed before it allegedly swerved into the right lane, first hitting a parked jeep and then colliding with an oncoming vehicle at Dona Paula.

Police said a woman passenger was also inside the car at the time of the crash.

Videos circulating on social media reportedly showed Sardesai arguing with the owner of one of the damaged vehicles and allegedly abusing him before calling his father to the spot. Police later intervened.
