The Porvorim Women’s Sports Fest 2026 was held with strong community participation, bringing together women from Salvador do Mundo, Socorro, and Penha de França panchayats in a celebration of sports and unity. Organised under Porvorim Rising by Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, the event aimed to promote women’s empowerment by encouraging participation, building confidence, and fostering greater involvement in sports and community life.
Over 1,300 women across age groups — 18–30, 30–50, 51–70, and 71 and above — took part in the fest. Competitions included walk races, lemon and spoon, sack races, musical chairs, relay races, tug of war, and other recreational games, with participants displaying enthusiasm and sporting spirit throughout the day.
A key highlight was the felicitation of women sportspersons who have excelled at the national level. Among those honoured were Ana Julieta M Abraham (hammer throw), Sanjana Prabhugaonkar, Pooja Kalel and Sonam Mashelkar (cricket), Gilu Fernandes (football), Disha Mandrekar (hockey), Tanvi Dyaneshwar Naik (softball), and Tanishka and Priti Chavan (boxing), inspiring attendees and underscoring the growing presence of women in competitive sports.
