Application for EC is pending with authority
OLD GOA
In a minor victory for the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) MLA Viresh Borkar, the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority has issued a stop-work order to the Bambolim project. The order was issued to the company on Monday after noting that construction activity is being undertaken on the property without obtaining prior Environment Clearance as prescribed under the EIA Notification 2006.
Stating that the application for EC is still pending with the authority, the authority has issued directions to stop the work with immediate effect. “Further, you are directed to ensure that no civil work of whatsoever kind and nature is carried out at the said site. Failure to comply with the directions shall attract action under section 15 of The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, which includes imprisonment/fine,” the order states.
Copies of the order have also been issued to the North Goa Collector for necessary action, the Deputy Collector to enforce the directions and ensure that no work is carried out at the site, to the Agassaim PI to stop work ongoing at the site, and to the Curca-Bambolim panchayat for necessary action.
St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar to continue sit-in protest
OLD GOA: Even as the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority issued a stop-work order for the Bambolim project, RGP MLA Viresh Borkar remained firm in continuing his sit-in protest till the TCP revokes licenses for the project.
“The stop-work order for the project from State Environment Authority shows that the project is illegal,” Borkar informed, while addressing reporters at the protest site on Tuesday.
“Therefore, I will continue the sit-in protest till the TCP acts in the matter and revokes all the licenses that have been issued for the project,” the MLA added.
Meanwhile, the OBC Mahasangh extended its support to the protest by MLA Borkar and demanded that the government fulfils his demands.
Mahasangh President Madhu Naik also urged that the MLA should raise the issues of the hundred demands that the OBC have put forth to the government, in the Assembly.
