As part of efforts to trace sewage contamination in Taleigao's water supply, PWD has excavated roads along the pipeline route. However, these roadworks are causing traffic delays and inconvenience for local residents.

Officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) are yet to pinpoint the source of contamination of its piped water supply to two wards in Taleigao – Voddlem Bhat and Borbhat – weeks after it was first discovered in April.
PWD sources have said that the contamination is clearly a fallout of sewage water let out by several residential complexes flowing into open areas and also into the normal stormwater drainage network.
PWD officials said they have now located the area and taken necessary measures to isolate the supply system, but they are yet to pinpoint the exact source of contamination where the sewage waste is seeping into the water pipeline.
At several places in Voddlem Bhat and Borbhat, the PWD has dug pits on the road along the pipeline’s route in its quest to locate the point of contamination.
Meanwhile, AAP leader Cecille Rodrigues slammed the Taleigao panchayat for its failure and negligence in addressing the issue of residential complexes letting sewage into open drains.
“They are granting NOCs without ensuring proper sewage connections, which has exacerbated the problem,” Rodrigues said, adding that the situation is a big threat to the lives of people living in the area.
Rodrigues demanded that the Taleigao panchayat and other relevant authorities take immediate action to rectify the sewage issue and ensure all new constructions are connected to the sewage system.
