Barely three days after bus services from Belagavi and Kolhapur to Goa resumed via Tillari Ghat, the ghat was blocked for over two hours after a huge container truck got stuck on Saturday morning.
Irked by the incident, commuters who were stranded along the route have demanded a ban on the movement of multi-axle trucks via Tillari ghat.
It may be recalled that Kolhapur PWD authorities had closed the Tillari ghat for heavy traffic since the arrival of monsoons last year due to the sharp turns where major and minor accidents were reported frequently.
As a result, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) stopped the ST bus services connecting Goa, Belagavi, and Kolhapur via Tillari Ghat
However, after rising demand from the commuters from Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka and following the erection of a protective gabion wall at a treacherous curve, MSRTC authorities restarted the bus services on Wednesday.
To the disappointment of authorities and commuters alike, the commencement of multi-axle trucks also began plying along the route, posing an inconvenience and threat to commuters.
