One sub-station each with 20 MVA load capacity has been proposed at the Tivim Industrial Estate and Morod.
“We have written to the PDA about our requirement of around 2,000 square metres of land for the sub-station in Morod. The former chairman had in principle agreed to make provision for the land,” said C H Rajagopalan, Executive Engineer, Electricity Department, Div I & II.
Mapusa has seen a spurt in construction activities with many high-rise buildings coming up in the heart of the city and in Khorlim.
Many old houses and structures in the town have made way for large building projects, putting pressure on existing power infrastructure.
“Lot of constructions are coming up in Mapusa and therefore demand for power consumption is bound to swell in coming days. At present, we have sufficient capacity for Mapusa…,” Rajagopalan said.
Worst hit areas are locals in Siolim and Calangute who face frequent power cuts and load shedding.
Rajagopalan admitted that there were power-related issues along the coastal belt, particularly in Anjuna and Siolim.
He informed that there were plans to set up sub-stations along the coastal belt too.
A new sub-station has been proposed near the Calangute church, for which land has already been identified.
“The land proposed for the sub-station in Calangute belongs to the local communidade which has given NOC for the sub-station,” the executive engineer said.
At present, there are five sub-stations in Bardez at Mapusa, Nagoa, Candolim, Saligao and Porvorim.

Management of street lights
in disarray

MAPUSA: The electricity department officials seem to have lost control on street light management in Bardez.
In many areas in Mapusa and Aldona, streets lights are put on early in the evening, when it is relatively bright while on the next day, the lights remain on till late in the morning. Complaints to department have fallen on deaf ears. “The switching on and off exercise of street lights is given to some of our staff. We will take strict action against those who fail to stick to the timings,” said C H Rajagopalan, Executive Engineer.  Several residents have highlighted the street light issue through the columns of the newspapers.

Dept has started issuing power bills, says Rajagopalan

MAPUSA: The Electricity Department Executive Engineer C H Rajagopalan said the department has begun issuing power bills to the public and those who have not received it would get it latest
by mid-April.
“We have issued the contract for issuing bills to a new agency. The agency needed some time to put systems in place. It’s almost complete and most people have started getting the bills,” he said.
He said few people will get the bills by this month and most will get them by April.
Generation of electricity bills have been pending for more than two months.
