Congress on Sunday alleged that the BJP government’s announcement of 10,000 jobs has been made with an eye on the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar has called upon Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to explain why the unemployment rate has touched 35 per cent and why his government failed to give unemployment dole of Rs 4,000 to 5,000 as promised before the Assembly election.

Chodankar pointed out that there is no budgetary provision for the employment of 10,000 persons.

“We demand please release a dole of Rs 4,000 to 5,000 to unemployed persons, which was promised by them before releasing new jobs. Pay it to those who have also come from abroad after losing jobs,” Chodankar declared.

He further charged, “If we calculate the minimum salary of even an attendant's post then the government will require Rs 350 crores annually to pay salaries of the proposed new entrants. From where and how will they be paid? This government is a liar and has been doing it whenever the elections are approaching.”

“During the last Assembly election, BJP had promised to create 50,000 jobs in five years. Now, they need to tell people and youth why they failed to give jobs in the last four years,” he said.
