Goa is unlikely to face heatwave conditions through the coming fortnight, but daytime temperatures are expected to remain above normal, in line with a broader warming trend along India’s west coast.
As per the India Meteorological Department’s latest bulletin, no heatwave conditions are likely during the week from March 19 to 25, or in the following week ending April 1. However, maximum temperatures are expected to remain normal to above normal over the Konkan belt, including Goa, and parts of coastal Karnataka. Night temperatures, too, are likely to stay on the higher side along the coast.
The forecast comes even as recent conditions in Goa have turned relatively milder compared to early March. The “feels-like” temperature dropped to around 35.5°C on Saturday, down from nearly 41°C recorded during the initial days of the month.
Over the past 24 hours, dry weather prevailed across the State, wherein Panaji recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6°C, about one degree above normal, while Mormugao saw 33.2°C. Minimum temperatures dipped slightly below normal, with 22.6°C in Panaji and 22°C in Mormugao.
The IMD stated that prevailing atmospheric systems over peninsular India including an upper air cyclonic circulation over south interior Karnataka and a trough extending from the Gulf of Mannar, continue to influence regional weather patterns, though no significant rainfall activity is expected over Goa in the immediate term.
