Warden suspended for ‘liquor parties’ in Colvale Jail cowshed

Jail Warden Narayan Naik has been suspended in connection with two ‘liquor parties’ by some inmates in the cowshed of the Central Jail at Colvale.

An order in this regard has been issued by the jail administration, after two liquor parties allegedly took place in the cowshed of the Jail on May 22 and June 15.

According to sources, the responsibility to maintain the cowshed had been entrusted to the suspended Jail Warden Narayan Naik.

On both days in question, the jail warden had allowed jail inmates go to clean the cowshed and had left the inmates to themselves.

A party is reported to have taken place when prohibited items like liquor, tobacco, fish and chicken were consumed.

The parties in the jail’s cowshed was exposed by IRB police deployed for security of the prison. On receiving information of these parties, the prison administration conducted an enquiry and found out that the supply of liquor and other items for the party had been transported in the prison’s own vehicle.

On Friday, the administration issued an order suspending Jail Warden Narayan Naik.
