A 27-year-old woman, who had previously filed a rape complaint, was found semi-conscious and without clothes near the Bastora flyover early this morning, triggering swift police action and medical assistance.
Speaking to the media, North Goa Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta said the woman was hostile and aggressive towards both the police and medical staff during the rescue.
Details reveal that the police control room received a distress call at 4:44 a.m. about the woman at Tar Junction, Bastora. A PCR vehicle and an 108 ambulance were immediately dispatched to the spot, and she was subsequently rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“Our lady police officials, with the staff, visited the District hospital, Mapusa and found the lady was undergoing treatment. On seeing the police, she turned arrogant and aggressive. The woman was first treated at the hospital casualty ward, where she informed the doctors that “some people brought her there.” The medical staff observed signs of self-harm tendencies and referred her for psychiatric evaluation,” Gupta said.
He further stated that the psychiatrist who examined her opined that she needs further treatment and should be referred to IPHB Bambolim. “As per the Mental Health Care Act, we will be writing to the JMFC seeking appropriate orders for her transfer to IPHB,” he added.
Gupta further revealed that the woman had earlier filed a complaint of rape at Porvorim Police Station, the case which was later transferred to Mapusa and subsequently to the Women’s PS.
“In that case, she had alleged sexual intercourse by some individuals in Goa. We had registered an FIR. However, the woman kept changing her statement at various stages. She was also very aggressive and hostile towards medical examiners and the police,” the officer said while clarifying that her uncooperative attitude complicated the investigation.
“The police are handling the matter with sensitivity. I am saying this on the record, we are not alleging anything against the victim. Our investigation is still ongoing, both in the earlier case and in connection with this morning’s incident,” he added.
