Action sought against sewage work contractor

Sewage water inundated the low-lying fields adjacent to the SGPDA mega retail market, raising a stink in the entire locality.

The open fields adjacent to the SGPDA mega retail market raised a stink following the discharge of sewage water.
Market traders as well as citizens cried foul over the sewage discharge in the fields, demanding that the culprits, including the contractor engaged for sewage works, should be booked if involved in the criminal act.
Traders wondered how the low-lying fields adjacent to the market are inundated with sewage water when the city has not witnessed any unseasonal showers in the last few days.
Local Madel resident Milagres Fernandes has demanded the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to bring the culprits to book. Blaming a contractor for discharging the sewage into the adjoining fields, Milagres demanded to know whether the locals are destined to suffer health hazards when the contractors make huge profits and take their capital to their native states.
“We demand immediate action against the contractors and to plug the sewage flow. We are now heading into a festive season. Shoppers to the SGPDA market should not face a stink for no fault of theirs,” he said.
Market traders also demanded that the authorities intervene immediately and plug the sewage flow.
