PANAJI
Goa Forward Party (GFP) president and its lone MLA Vijai Sardesai on Friday attempted damage control after facing sharp criticism over admitting former Congress MLA Isidore Fernandes into his party.
Sardesai announced that Fernandes would not be given the GFP ticket for the 2027 assembly elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Panaji, Sardesai defended his decision, saying it was aimed at boosting the prospects of GFP’s Zilla Panchayat candidate in Canacona, Prashant Naik.
However, the move has triggered strong reactions from both the Congress and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), with whom Sardesai had earlier declared plans to align in a bid to challenge the ruling BJP. The controversy has left GFP on the defensive, with allies questioning Sardesai’s credibility.
