GOAPEX opens in Panaji with focus on reviving philately

The Department of Posts, Goa Division, inaugurated GOAPEX 2025, a district-level philatelic exhibition, on 28 November at Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji. The two-day event aims to promote philately among students and the public. It was opened by Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Shishir Dhamija, in the presence of Jnanpith awardee Damodar Bhai Mauzo; Chief Postmaster General (Maharashtra & Goa) Amitabh Singh; Director Postal Services Ramesh Patil; and Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Anurag Nikhare. The ceremony included the traditional lamp-lighting and a rendition of Vande Mataram to mark its 150th year.

Speakers highlighted the cultural and historical importance of philately. Amitabh Singh stressed nurturing interest among youth and the emotional value of handwritten letters. Damodar Mauzo noted the vast reach of India Post and the storytelling power of stamps. Chief Guest Shishir Dhamija appreciated the initiative and underlined the importance of financial literacy through postal schemes.

The event saw the release of several philatelic items, including a Special Cancellation on the GOAPEX 2025 logo, a Special Cover on Bebinca, Goa GI postcards, and Permanent Pictorial Cancellations. With over 150 exhibits, GOAPEX 2025 also hosted seminars, workshops, and competitions for students, continuing on 29 November with more activities and prize distribution.
