3 human trafficking victims rescued from Colva, Ponda

Accused sought to exploit them in sex trade

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Margao has rescued two victims, both natives of West Bengal, near a hotel at Colva after they were trafficked from West Bengal.

In another raid, Ponda police has rescued a woman who was brought to Goa for the purpose of prostitution.

Goa police said that the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit Margao conducted a raid near a Hotel at Colva, with the help of a decoy customer and NGO. Two victims, trafficked from West Bengal, were rescued.

The police alleged that the accused persons Suresh Nayak, age 33 yrs, resident of Benaulim-Colva  and Raju, a native of West Bengal had allegedly confined the victims in Colva and were exploiting them in prostitution. 

The police further alleged that accused Suresh Nayak was caught red-handed while delivering the victims to a decoy customer and was arrested on the spot.

In this regard, an  offence has been registered at Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Margao  under Sections of BNS 2023 and Immoral trafficking (Protection) Act. 

Further investigation is conducted by PI Sudiksha S. Naik of Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Margao  under the supervision of SDPO Margao  Siddhant Shirodkar and under the overall supervision of SP (South) Margao, Tikam Singh Verma.

Meanwhile, acting on reliable information, Ponda Police conducted a raid on August 30 at a residence at Ponda and rescued woman was trafficked to Goa for prostitution. The raid was carried out with the help of a decoy customer and an NGO.

During the operation, accused persons Najim  Sadager,  age 33years r/o Ponda n/o West Bengal, Jamedar Murmu, age 38 years, native of West Bengal  and Rajesh Goud, age 49 years, native of Uttar Pradesh were allegedly caught red-handed while delivering victims to the decoy customer. They had induced and trafficked the girl with the intention of supplying her to customers for prostitution, the police alleged.

An offence has been registered at Ponda Police Station sections of BNS 2023 and Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The three accused have been arrested and the rescued girl has been lodged in Protective home, Merces Goa.

Further investigation of the case is with PI, Vijaynath Kavlekar of Ponda Police station, under the supervision of SDPO Ponda,  Shivram Vaugankar and under the overall supervision of SP (South) Margao, Tikam Singh Verma.
