3,000 Mhaje Ghar orders to be handed over in South Goa drive: CM

PANAJI: The Goa government is set to distribute over 3,000 house ownership sanads under the Mhaje Ghar Yojana at a major facilitation programme in Margao on Thursday, June 4, providing legal ownership documents and final property orders to eligible homeowners across South Goa.

“The camp will be held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, from 11 am to 1 pm, and around 3,000 pending cases are expected to be taken up in the first phase of distribution,” Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced after the cabinet meeting today. He added that a similar programme for North Goa will soon be conducted in Panaji.

Sawant added that the government has set up on-site verification counters at the venue to help applicants resolve documentation issues during the camp itself, ensuring faster clearance of eligible cases.

“The objective is to ensure pending applications are disposed of efficiently, with verification and support available at the venue,” Sawant said, adding that applicants should attend with complete documentation to avoid delays in processing.

He said the scheme is aimed at regularising long-pending residential structures, many of which date back decades, including homes built prior to 1972. The regularisation process covers housing board allotments, 20-point programme beneficiaries, Alvara lands, and select Comunidade holdings with required clearances, with a fee of around Rs 1 lakh for eligible cases.

“The focus is on long-standing Goan households, and over 95% of identified cases on government land belong to local families. This initiative is not meant to regularise recent unauthorised constructions,” Sawant said.

He further said around 30,000 cases are under process across the state, with about 5,000 already cleared in earlier rounds.
