Two persons were rescued from drowning in a well at Curchorem by two off-duty personnel of the Curchorem Fire Station.
Sources informed that a woman from Sasna Maddi, Cacora, had allegedly jumped into a well. A local, who entered the well in an attempt to rescue her, also began struggling in the water.
At that crucial moment, off-duty fire personnel Vaibhav Adel and Bhavnesh Naik immediately descended into the well and, using ropes, managed to keep both victims afloat until the arrival of the fire brigade. Their timely intervention saved the lives of both individuals, prompting locals to commend them for their bravery.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Damodar Jambavalikar, an officer of the Curchorem Fire and Emergency Services, rushed to the spot along with other staff members. Fire personnel Satyajit Desai and Vishal Velip also entered the well and assisted in the rescue operation.
With the help of ropes, the woman and man were safely brought out of the well. They were shifted to the Cacora Health Centre, where doctors stated that their condition was stable.
Residents of the Curchorem area have praised the courage and selflessness shown by Vaibhav Adel and Bhavnesh Naik for risking their lives to save two others despite not being on duty. Appreciation has also been extended to Satyajit Desai, Vishal Velip and the other personnel who assisted in the operation.
Citizens have urged the government to officially recognise and honour the exemplary service and bravery displayed by the personnel of the Curchorem Fire and Emergency Services.
