Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday demanded that the Goa government provide 300 units of free electricity to every household, waive all pending domestic power bill arrears up to June 15, and ensure uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply by July 31, warning that the party would launch a statewide agitation if the demands are not met.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Kejriwal said soaring electricity bills and recurring power cuts had emerged as major concerns for people across Goa. He claimed that if the proposed measures are implemented, nearly 76 per cent of Goan households would receive zero electricity bills while also getting relief from outstanding dues.
Citing figures reportedly placed in the Assembly, he said Goa witnessed around 19,000 power outages between January 2024 and May 2025, while another 2,133 outages were recorded between January and March 2026.
Kejriwal maintained that the proposed free electricity scheme was financially viable and would cost the State approximately Rs 345 crore annually. According to him, the expenditure would amount to less than one per cent of Goa's budget, which exceeds Rs 30,000 crore.
"We have demonstrated in Delhi and Punjab that free electricity, waiver of arrears and reliable power supply can be provided. If the Goa government requires assistance in implementing these measures, we are ready to help," he said.
Issuing an ultimatum to the government, Kejriwal said the demands should be implemented by July 31. "If the government fails to act by then, the Aam Aadmi Party will take to the streets and launch an agitation to secure relief for the people of Goa," he said.
