Arpora tragedy: Luthra brothers seek anticipatory bail in Delhi as probe widens

PANAJI: Absconding Luthra brothers, Gaurav and Saurabh, owners of the Arpora nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane, have moved the Rohini Sessions Court in Delhi seeking anticipatory bail in the December 7 fire case that killed 25 people.

The two escaped to Phuket within hours of the blaze at one of their properties in Goa - Birch by Romeo Lane. Their plea is expected to come up for hearing today.

Interpol has already issued a Blue Corner Notice to help locate and provisionally detain them ahead of possible extradition. Goa Police have also issued Look Out Circulars against two others linked to the club, business partner Ajay Gupta and property owner Surinder Kumar Khosla.

Gupta, detained in Delhi late last night after the LOC was issued, told the media he had no operational role at the Arpora outlet, saying he was only a partner and unaware of day-to-day matters.

Meanwhile, the Goa Police are also following the financial trail linked to the club and its owners. The Delhi Passport Office has also issued notices to the brothers for impounding their passports, giving them seven days to respond before cancellation.
