Will the controversy of sorts over the Constitution remarks by Congress candidate Captain Viriato Fernandes have any bearing on the South Goa voters in the May 7 election?

Well, the BJP had lost no opportunity to latch on to Captain Viriato’s Constitution remarks in a bid to strike an emotive chord with its core voter base.

After going hammer and thongs against Captain Viriato Fernandes in particular and the Congress in general, the BJP suddenly applied brakes by not making a mention on the row, with only the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant touching on the controversy at the public meetings.

Political observers say the ruling party might have done a rethink in making capital out of the Constitution remarks row out of fear of reverse polarization of the minorities towards the Congress candidate.
