Tiatr scene in Margao set to shine bright yet again

There’s finally good news in store for tiatrists and tiatr lovers. The Pai Tiatrist auditorium at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao will be finally open for tiatrs from May 22.

That’s not all. The auditorium is all set for further upgradation in the coming months for the screening of films during IFFI 2024.

Addressing media, Ravindra Bhavan Chairman, Rajendra Talak said the entire flooring of the auditorium stage has been replaced during the repair and renovation works. He further said the auditorium will now have full 1069 seating capacity following of the repairs of the damaged seats. Of the 1069 seats, six seats have been reserved for persons with disabilities.

On the Sound system, Talak said the 15-year old sound system has been repaired as it was working only 30 per cent of its capacity. “We expect to upgrade the sound system when the auditorium is taken up for upgradation in the run up to the IFFI festival 2024”, he said, adding that flooring beyond the wooden stage and the green rooms have been upgraded.

“We could complete this work due to the hard work and dedication showed by contractors, PWD, Division VIII, Engineer Elvis D’Souza, JE Gaurish and entire staff of Ravindra Bhavan”, he added.

Saying Ravindra Bhavan, has played host to two trial shows of tiatr by Pascol de Chicalim and Menino de Bandar to check if any issue needs to be resolved, Talak said Rs 30,000 was paid to them as remuneration, as he thanked the groups for their support.

Meanwhile, Talak took the opportunity to inform the media that the registration for Ravindra Bhavan film Club has commenced, saying that forms are available on website www.ravidrabhavanmargao.com.

Additionally, they will also be available at Ravindra Bhavan office from Monday-Friday, 10 am to 5.30 pm. The applicants are requested to submit the filled form along with membership fee of Rs 1000 to the office. “There will be minimum of 20 films screened every year. We are planning for mini International film festival and also National Award winning film festival every year. During screenings we will also try to invite film experts and celebrities to interact with the audience”, he said adding that the screening schedule would start from June 15.

Saying that upgradation of the auditorium for film screening during IFFI 2024 is in the process Talak said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured to execute the work through Entertainment Society of Goa.
