Becomes first woman to head industry, business body

Multi-faceted Panaji-based banker and businesswoman Pratima Dhond has been elected the next president of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI).
Dhond will take over from industrialist Srinivas Dempo and will become the first woman ever to head the industry and business body ever since it was established over a century ago. She will assume office on July 1, 2025.
In a press release issued on Thursday, GCCI said, the election of Dhond to head the Chamber signifies a new era of inclusive leadership and visionary growth.
"Her unanimous selection underscores GCCI’s commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs and fostering a progressive business environment in Goa," GCCI said, adding that with Dhond's extensive experience in banking and business she is poised to bring innovative perspectives, strategic insights and dynamic leadership to further enhance the Chamber’s role as a catalyst for economic development in the region.
Dhond is a former sportswoman having represented the State in basketball and has also headed the Goa Women's Cooperative Bank as the chairperson of the BoD for several years and terms.
She also owns and operates multiple hospitality and other businesses alongwith her husband Gaurish Dhond.
