PANAJI: The Goa Crime Branch will investigate into an alleged sex racket case involving the son of a BJP councillor from Curchorem. A 20-year-old accused, Soham Naik, is currently in police custody.

The case, initially registered at the local police station, was transferred to the Crime Branch today.

Naik, a resident of Madegal-Cacora, was arrested late Sunday night for his alleged involvement in an explicit scandal, with claims that minors may have been involved and objectionable content circulated, triggering public outrage.

His arrest followed a protest by over 200 residents outside the Curchorem Police Station demanding immediate action.

He was initially booked under Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, and was remanded to four days of police custody by the Quepem JMFC court on Monday.

Police have since invoked stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, including Sections 5, 7, 9, 11, and 15.

With POCSO charges added, the accused will be produced before the Children’s Court as per procedure, as the Crime Branch takes over further investigation.
