A dentist in Porvorim was reportedly cheated to the tune of Rs 2.85 lakh on the pretext of getting a dental procedure done by some unknown person.
While the incident is reported to have taken place on August 19, the police has registered a complaint on December 30.
According to sources, the dentist was contacted by an unknown person from an unknown number saying that he was an officer from the Indian Army and that his army officers are to be treated at his dental clinic.
Accordingly, the dentist provided details of his bank account to this unknown person who asked to share those details. The person then sent a link of some website to the dentist.
After this link was opened by the dentist, the unknown person transferred Rs 2.85 lakh to his own account. When the dentist realised that he has been cheated, he rushed to the Porvorim police station. Police have registered a case against an unidentified person under Section 419 and 420 and further investigation is on.
