The Opposition Congress launched a scathing attack on the Pramod Sawant-led BJP government, accusing it of presiding over a “complete collapse of the Constitutional machinery” in the state.

At a press conference held on Wednesday, Congress MLA Carlos Alvares-Ferreira and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar cited a spate of recent murders, robberies, and the armed dacoity at Baina as evidence of the deteriorating law and order.

Alvares-Ferreira said the government had failed in its primary duty of ensuring safety and security for citizens.

“When people are being murdered in broad daylight and armed gangs can strike at will, it is nothing short of a breakdown of governance. This is not just negligence, it is a collapse of the Constitutional machinery,” he said.

He added that the Sawant government had lost moral authority to continue in office and demanded its immediate dismissal.

Patkar echoed the concerns, pointing to what he described as a climate of fear across Goa.

“The Baina dacoity is not an isolated incident. We are witnessing robberies, assaults, and murders with alarming frequency. The police force appears helpless, and the government is indifferent. How can Goans feel safe when criminals are emboldened and law enforcement is compromised?” he asked.

The GPCC president further alleged that the administration was more focused on protecting vested interests than safeguarding ordinary citizens.

“Instead of addressing crime, the government is busy with publicity stunts. This is unacceptable. Goa deserves a government that prioritises the safety of its people,” Patkar said.

Both leaders demanded that the Centre intervene to restore order in the State.
