MARGAO
The Food and Drugs Administration on Thursday ordered the closure of a restaurant located on Margao Station Road for running the establishment in unhygienic conditions.

An FDA team led by Officer Sanjot Kudalkar conducted a fresh inspection of the restaurant only to find the deficiencies not complied with by the owner.

The officer told the media that the FDA had received a complaint some time ago against Janata Hotel, saying the restaurant was not being run hygienically. She said the FDA had issued a show cause notice to the owner with directions to comply with the deficiencies.

She, however, pointed out that when the FDA team inspected the premises, it was revealed that none of the deficiencies were rectified by the owner, forcing the FDA to impose a fine of Rs 20,000.

“The owner has not paid the fine so far. When we inspected the restaurant on Thursday, we realised that the owner had complied with only five out of the 30 deficiencies. This has left us with no option but to order closure of the unit until he complies with the instructions,” she added.
