A team of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officers was felicitated for sustained enforcement action against the sale of substandard cashew in Goa, following a series of drives over the past two years targeting errant vendors.
The officers, who have booked multiple cases against defaulting traders, were honoured by Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC) head Devya Rane at the hands of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Those felicitated included Richard L Noronha, Designated Officer and Licensing Authority; Rajaram P Patil, Senior Food Safety Officer; and Food Safety Officers Amit Mandrekar, Madhav Kavlekar, Bhakti Walke, Safia Khan, and Lenin De Sa.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the FDA team conducted surveillance checks across markets, leading to significant curbs on the sale of oily and low-quality cashew. Officials said the sustained enforcement has helped improve quality standards and deter violations.
