Mapusa police have registered a case of cheating against five persons on charges of defrauding a Mumbai-based company to the tune of Rs 8 crore in connection with the sale of 2,400 square metres of land in Candolim.
In a complaint, Neetan Chhatwal of Mumbai stated that the accused—Oscar Vaz, Zita Vaz (Candolim), Laura Vaz D’Sa, Peter D’Sa (Mapusa), and Aloysius Pinto (Mumbai)—had expressed their willingness to sell a 2,400-square metre property in Candolim to the Mumbai-based company, after claiming to have rights over the property.
The company then entered into a transaction valued at Rs 8 crore with the five accused for the property.
However, the company later found out that the property had been sold to another party, and a complaint was filed with the Mapusa police.
Acting on the complaint, Mapusa police have registered a case against the accused and are conducting an investigation under the guidance of Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar.
