PANAJI: In a major leap toward tech-enabled law enforcement, Goa Police launched 'DeepTrace', India’s first AI-backed investigative platform. The flagship investigative platform was formally launched today in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Director General of Police Alok Kumar.

Developed entirely in-house by Goa Police’s AI-ML Lab, 'DeepTrace' is designed to extract actionable intelligence from publicly available sources using basic identifiers such as mobile numbers, vehicle registration, PAN, or email IDs.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant noted that Goa is now leading the country in adopting smart policing practices. “'DeepTrace' is the first platform of its kind in India, built under a police-led AI-ML Lab. Goa may be a small state, but we’re leading the way in smart and scientific policing,” Sawant said. “This will significantly aid in both cybercrime prevention and criminal investigations. Deep Trace is available to all police departments across India and can be accessed by officers of the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) and above.”

Calling the initiative a “proud moment” for the Goa Police, DGP Alok Kumar said the launch of 'DeepTrace' marks a transformative step in policing through indigenous technological solutions. “With 'DeepTrace', we are transforming law enforcement using homegrown AI tools. It has already helped us crack complex cases during trials and will now be an integral part of our investigative toolkit,” he said, adding that the project aligns with the DG-IG Conference’s vision for modern policing.

SP Cyber Crime Rahul Gupta said the 'DeepTrace' tool has already proven its value on the ground. “We’ve tested 'DeepTrace' in several sensational cases—murders, robberies—and it has consistently delivered strong results. It’s a game-changer,” he remarked.

Speaking about the AI-ML Lab, Sawant highlighted that the AI-ML Lab is not just a technological upgrade. “This lab isn’t just about infrastructure. It’s about equipping our police force with the right tools to prevent, detect, and respond to crime more effectively,” he said. “Goa is setting a benchmark in technology-led policing, and I believe we will become a model state in the years ahead.”

Sawant also outlined the lab’s broader scope beyond 'DeepTrace'. “Since its inauguration on February 18, 2025, the lab has already rolled out the QuickPass app to streamline traffic checks through QR-based verification,” he said. “We’re also developing a tenant verification system with real-time alerts and a cloud-based call center to strengthen support for cybercrime victims through the 1930 Helpline.”
