Goa Railway Police arrests fugitive wanted in Karnataka murder case

PANAJI: Goa Konkan Railway Police on Thursday arrested a man wanted in a murder case registered in Karnataka within hours of receiving intelligence inputs about his movement.

Police said Karnataka authorities alerted them that the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Prashant Kumar Bhandari from Shivaji Nagar in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, wanted in connection with a case registered at Panambur Police Station in Mangaluru, was likely travelling to Goa by train.

Acting swiftly, Konkan Railway Police teams were deployed near Margao railway station and other key locations. With the help of CCTV surveillance, technical inputs, and coordinated intelligence, officers tracked the accused and detained him soon after the Hazrat Nizamuddin Express arrived.

During questioning, the suspect confirmed his identity, after which police verified his link to the Karnataka murder case, officials said.

He is currently in Goa Police custody. Karnataka Police have been informed to complete further legal formalities and take custody for investigation.
