Amid continuing murmurs of discontent within the Goa Congress following the recent organisational reshuffle, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar will attend a crucial meeting in New Delhi on Thursday convened by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country.

Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal has called an urgent meeting of all AICC General Secretaries, State in-charges and Pradesh Congress Committee presidents at Indira Bhavan in New Delhi. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will preside over the meeting.

While the agenda has not been formally disclosed, the high-level gathering assumes significance as the Congress prepares for a series of electoral battles across the country including Goa and seeks to strengthen its organisational machinery.

Speaking to The Goan, Chodankar confirmed his participation in the meeting but said the agenda was yet to be communicated to the attendees.

"I have been asked to attend the meeting. The agenda has not yet been revealed," Chodankar said adding the political situation in the upcoming poll bound States like Goa and the organisation strengthening would be discussed.

The meeting comes at a time when the Goa Congress has been grappling with internal unease following the appointment of Chodankar as GPCC chief. The organisational changes triggered public expressions of dissatisfaction from some party leaders, fuelling speculation of factional divisions within the State unit ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

However, Chodankar, and AICC Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare have repeatedly downplayed the developments, maintaining that such reactions are natural whenever organisational changes are made in a political party.

Party leaders have asserted that the Congress remains united and focused on preparing for the 2027 Assembly polls.

The Delhi meeting also comes just days before the Goa Congress is expected to unveil its roadmap for the 2027 Assembly elections on Goa Revolution Day, June 18.
