According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon further advanced into parts of Goa, additional areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and the southwest Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
The monsoon had made landfall over Kerala yesterday, and its arrival in Goa comes in line with the state's usual onset date. Meteorologists have indicated that weather conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to progress further across Goa and adjoining coastal regions over the next two to three days.
The IMD has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across the state during the coming week as the monsoon system strengthens and advances northward.
A yellow alert has been issued for Goa until June 9, with the weather department warning of moderate rainfall across the state. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 40“50 kmph, and heavy rainfall at isolated places are likely during the alert period.
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain around 33°C to 34°C in the immediate future. However, meteorologists have indicated that temperatures may gradually decline depending on the intensity of rainfall and increased cloud cover associated with the advancing monsoon.
