PANAJI: A car allegedly driven by an intoxicated person came close to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s convoy near Amona on Thursday night, prompting a swift security response. Five persons, including a police constable, were detained in connection with the incident.

According to sources, the Chief Minister’s convoy had already passed the Amona–Sanquelim junction when security personnel noticed a suspicious movement involving a car on the route. The vehicle was immediately intercepted and stopped by the convoy’s security team.

All five occupants were taken into custody on suspicion of attempting to ram or approach the convoy. They are stated to be residents of the Khandola–Betki area.

Sources suggest that there is no indication that the vehicle was deliberately targeting the Chief Minister. The vehicle has been seized and a detailed inquiry is underway.
