BELAGAVI

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai has stated that the Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project is being implemented step by step as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been cleared.

He was speaking to the reporters at Hubballi airport on Tuesday.

He also reacted about the uproar in Goa especially after the unhappiness expressed by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over the judgement on the issues and Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks in Belagavi on Saturday, stating that the implementation is being done after a protracted legal battle.

“As per the directions of the Supreme Court, a tribunal was constituted and after ten years of examining this project from various angles, the tribunal gave its verdict which was gazette notified by Government of India in 2017.”

“Now, the DPR has been okayed and the project is being implemented stage by stage,” Bommai said.

“This action had been taken after a protracted legal battle,” said the Karnataka chief minister, in reply to a question over the uproar in Goa against the implementation of the project.

Karnataka Chief Minister made it clear that Karnataka will go ahead with the project despite stiff opposition from Goa.

It may be recalled that there is huge discontent in Goa among politicians and people over Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement. Blowing the election bugle at a public rally at M K Hubli on Saturday, the home minister had stated that the Centre had cleared the Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion for the benefit of farmers in North Karnataka region.

Speaking further, Bommai said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Bengaluru on February 6 to inaugurate the International Conference on India Energy Week. The PM will also participate in the helicopter manufacturing unit at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Tumkur.
