Margao council begins push for 4-way waste segregation

Margao municipality has scheduled a guidance session to explain the new waste segregation system.

MARGAO
As the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, mandate the segregation of waste into four categories, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) will hold a guidance session at the Margao municipality on Tuesday.
MMC officials pointed out that segregation of waste into wet, dry, sanitary (hygiene-related) and special-care waste is compulsory under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. As per the rules, officials said citizens are now required to hand over this waste separately to authorised waste collectors.
While the green bin is designated for wet and biodegradable waste, the blue bin is for dry and recyclable waste. “The red bin is intended for sanitary and hygiene-related waste, and the black bin is for special-care waste and domestic hazardous waste,” an official explained.
Municipal sources stated that detailed information regarding this matter will be provided to stakeholders during the programme.
