MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council has beefed up its garbage collection mechanism by procuring three brand-new garbage compactors at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore.

The MMC has purchased the garbage compactors from Hyva (India) Pvt Ltd on the government portal.

Margao Civic Chief Damu Shirodkar, along with Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar, municipal engineers, and officials, on Wednesday inspected the garbage compactors before the Civic body applied for their registration.

Explaining the salient features of the garbage compactors, Hyva Assistant Engineer Shekhar Narayan said the compactors have an inbuilt leachate collection tank, which will prevent leachate from spilling onto the roads.

He further said that the company will support the MMC during the one-year warranty period, adding that the company will extend all help and assistance to the Civic officials on the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicles.

The MMC Chairperson later told the media that the Civic body has procured the three garbage compactors manufactured by Hyva to strengthen the garbage collection mechanism in the city. He said the vehicles have an inbuilt leachate collection tank, which will prevent the flow of leachate on the roads, reducing the risk of accidents.

Meanwhile, Shirodkar said that the MMC has placed orders for four more trucks for dry waste collection in the city.
