Pai Tiatrist Hall to undergo renovation ahead of IFFI 2025

Ardent tiatr lovers may have to forego watching their favourite tiatr at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, in the coming monsoons.
Reason: The management of Ravindra Bhavan has decided to shut the Pai Tiatrist hall for staging of tiatr shows in July and August to pave the way for the renovation and refurbishment of the amenities ahead of the 2025 IFFI festival.
Amenities which are proposed to be upgraded at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, include installation of a state-of-the-art projector, besides upgrades to the screen and sound system.
Chairman of the Ravindra Bhavan, filmmaker Rajendra Talak, has said the institution has stopped taking bookings for tiatr at the Pai Tiatrist hall for the two months of July and August given the planned renovation of the hall.
He, however, said the decision was taken after taking the tiatrists into confidence. “We have explained to the tiatrists why bookings to stage tiatr at the Pai Tiatrist hall have not been accepted by the management. We have also explained that if there is any delay in taking up the repair and renovation work, the tiatrists will be allowed to stage shows in the main auditorium,” he added.
Besides the projector, sound and screen upgrades, Talak said the roofing of the main auditorium will be changed to plug seepage of water during the rains.
Besides, he said the lighting in the hall and the replacement of damaged chairs will be taken up during the renovation. “Ravindra Bhavan is not taking up these works solely for the coming IFFI festival. These amenities will also be available for artists, including tiatrists, at the Pai Tiatrist hall,” he said.
To a question, he said the facilities proposed at Ravindra Bhavan will go a long way in the screening of films at the main auditorium during the forthcoming IFFI festival.
To another question, he said the PWD will soon float a tender to take up these proposed works at Ravindra Bhavan. Talak said the Black Box will also undergo repairs and refurbishment during the renovation work.
