MARGAO
Artist and former Entertainment Society of Goa governing body member Vishal Pai Cacode has questioned whether, if the Pai Tiatrist auditorium is to be converted into a film theatre, it will impact the acoustics and layout of the present auditorium.
Reacting to the statement of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao Chairman Rajendra Talak on the closure of the main auditorium for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI)-related works, Cacode asked whether Ravindra Bhavan is being systematically altered for purposes beyond its original mandate.
Asserting that Ravindra Bhavan was purposefully designed to host dramas, dance, music, and cultural performances, he asked: “Are we now seeing an attempt to convert it into a film theatre?”
“If so, what is the guarantee that it will not meet the same fate as Kala Academy — compromised acoustics, flawed layouts, and loss of cultural integrity? Transparency is the need of the hour. Who is the consultant behind this work? What is the cost? Who is the contractor? The public has a right to know, and this information must be made public,” demanded Cacode.
Saying that the people of Salcete deserve answers, Cacode has demanded complete transparency in the current renovation process and a commitment to protect the original layout and purpose of Ravindra Bhavan. “Let it remain a home for Goan art and culture, not another casualty of politics and misplaced priorities,” Cacode said.
