Paid holiday for workers from border States on April 26, May 7

The Goa Government has notified April 26, Friday as a paid holiday for workers from border States of Karnataka and Maharashtra employed in Goa, to enable them to vote on the polling day for the Lok Sabha election. 

Quite a number of people from the two bordering States are employed in different sectors including industries across Goa, and will be casting their votes in their respective constituencies.  

“The said paid holiday will be for industrial workers, daily wage workers of the Government Departments and State Government Industrial Departments, commercial and industrial workers of private establishments, workers of all private establishments, daily wage/casual workers employed in any business, trade industrial undertakings or any other establishments who are entitled to vote at the election in the border states of Karnataka and Maharashtra,” reads a notification issued on Tuesday.

A similar paid leave will be granted on May 7, Tuesday as other constituencies in the two adjoining states will be voting on this day. Goa will also go to polls in a single phase on May 7 with the State government already declaring it as a paid holiday.
