Pilot scheme, research push headline education initiatives

A special financial assistance scheme for women aspiring to become pilots, a new research ecosystem for college students and the setting up of a State-level technology incubator are among the key education sector initiatives announced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the State Budget 2026–27 on Friday.

Presenting the Budget in the Goa Legislative Assembly, Sawant announced the launch of the “Mukhyamantri Udaan Bharari Yojana”, aimed at supporting women who wish to pursue careers as commercial pilots. The scheme, to be implemented through the Higher Education Department, has been allocated Rs 1 crore to provide financial assistance to eligible candidates.

Overall, the government has earmarked Rs 3,439 crore for the Education Department in the coming financial year, which is one higher side, compared to last years Rs 3000cr allocation.
