With increased tourist footfall, the State tourism department is currently reviewing shack operators' request to extend the current beach shack operational period till June 8. The usual season concludes on May 31.

The Shack Owners Welfare Society, Goa in a request submitted to the department has sought an extension of the current beach shack operational period till June 8, citing exceptional weather conditions and increased tourist arrivals as key justifications for the appeal.

In their representation, the Society noted that favourable weather conditions have persisted, with Goa experiencing an unusual delay in monsoon activity. The absence of early showers has created an extended window of stable, pleasant beach weather—ideal for tourism activities, they said.

Acknowledging the efforts of the shack operators in highlighting the ground reality, the Director Tourism Kedar Naik said that the department is reviewing the request with due consideration to the favourable weather, the uptick in tourist arrivals, and the economic impact on shack operators.

“Any decision taken will balance stakeholder interests with safety regulations and environmental responsibility,” he said.

Director said that there has been a notable surge in domestic tourist arrivals during the initial days of June, indicating sustained interest in Goa’s coastal offerings even beyond the traditional season.

“This unexpected but welcome increase in tourist footfall signals a strong demand for continued beachside services and amenities,” he said.

An extended period would allow shacks to cater to the ongoing influx of tourists, enhance visitor experience, and contribute positively to local employment and revenue generation, the shack operators said.

Highlighting that the proposed extension is only for a brief period of eight days, the Society assured that all shack owners will adhere to existing tourism regulations and monsoon preparedness guidelines.
