Skeletal remains of an unidentified person were discovered in a bushy area at Esceirao Wado in Candolim on Saturday afternoon, police said.
According to police, the discovery was reported by the Candolim sarpanch, who alerted authorities after noticing what appeared to be human remains in the area.
A police team led by PSI Paresh Sinari rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection.
The remains were found under a cashew tree in dense bushes.
During the inspection, police also noticed a piece of bedsheet tied to a branch of the tree, suspected to have been used as ligature material.
Investigators said the deceased is believed to have been wearing a black long pant and a yellow T-shirt with black stripes, based on clothing found along with the skeletal remains.
A panchanama of the scene was conducted and the remains were later shifted to the GMC morgue at Bambolim for preservation and further examination.
An unnatural death (UD) case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further investigation is underway to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the cause of death, police said.
