Truck owners demand mining resumption in South Goa

Truck owners from Kamral in Curchorem and neighbouring areas have demanded the immediate resumption of mining activities, citing severe financial hardship faced by them and their families since the closure of the mining sector.

Expressing concern over the prolonged suspension of operations, the truck owners urged the government to take urgent steps to restart mining activities in South Goa, stating that their livelihoods have been badly affected for years.

The locals from Kamral also raised the issue of the jetty constructed by 

Tarcar and company, demanding that it be made operational at the earliest. They clarified that the jetty has no connection with coal handling activities and warned that they would strongly oppose any attempt to use the facility for coal transportation.

At the same time, the truck owners extended their support to residents of Xeldem, who have been opposing coal handling in the region, reiterating their stand against such activities.

Villagers alleged that due to the ongoing uncertainty and lack of clarity over the jetty’s operations, workers employed there have been severely affected, with many not receiving their salaries and wages regularly, thereby impacting their daily livelihoods.

Several women from the area also joined the demand for resumption of mining activities, recalling that mining has sustained families in the region for decades. They stressed that restarting operations would ensure stable employment opportunities for their children and secure the economic future of local households.
