The Office of the Superintendent of Police has issued a prohibitory order in the jurisdiction of the Porvorim and Panaji Police Stations, effective from August 31 until the conclusion of the 14th Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of Goa.
Under the order, no person shall take out a procession or stage a demonstration on any road, street or thoroughfare. Public meetings can be held only with a valid licence and in accordance with the terms and conditions prescribed by the authorities.
Individuals or groups intending to convene public gatherings, processions or demonstrations have been directed to apply for the required licence well in advance.
The order also reiterates that no procession, morcha, rally, dharna or similar activity will be permitted within a 500-metre radius of the Assembly Complex at Porvorim or in the area under Panaji Police Station.
These restrictions are in addition to the prohibitory measures promulgated by the District Magistrate, North Goa, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS).
