Calangute MLA Michael Lobo after seeing the mood of the villagers of Saligao, Calangute, etc over the GWMC's controversial buffer zone demand seems to have forcibly woken up and is suddenly talking against the Saligao waste treatment plant's management and over its overloading. Well, today, garbage is generated by all villages of Goa but my question is why should only the people of Saligao/surrounding areas do charity for free by blindly allowing villagers from far away places like Mormugao, Ponda, Chicalim, South Goa and Tiswadi to send their garbage trucks to the Saligao garbage treatment plant and to bring self-disaster on their village? Would the people of other villages have allowed the villagers of Saligao to commit such an outrageous act of transporting filthy garbage in trucks at a so-called ‘treatment site’ in their neighbourhood and pollute the environment of their villages? I think that the government of the day should set up its own mini garbage treatment plants in all the villages to permanently sort out this garbage problem instead of thinking of expanding the capacity of the already overloaded Saligao waste treatment plant.
