Semiconductor self-reliance: A proud milestone for India

Hats off to Indian scientists who have used their expertise and knowledge in compound semiconductor technology to achieve an outstanding milestone. Compound semiconductors are well suited for multi-domain operations and are the need of the hour.

Future wars will be technology-driven, marking a major shift from manned to unmanned platforms. In this changing landscape, semiconductors — especially advanced chips — play a central role. The monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) manufactured by the Gallium Arsenide Enabling Technology Centre are now playing a vital role. This marks a major step towards semiconductor self-reliance. It is a matter of pride that India has joined the six countries that have demonstrated such capabilities in this field.

India must continue to develop such critical technologies and reduce dependence on other countries. This progress not only strengthens the country’s strategic self-reliance in defence electronics, but also meets the growing needs of the civilian sector.
