Marathi demands in Goa are a distraction from real issues

The language issue in Goa was settled in 1987 ” so why is it being raked up repeatedly? Konkani is a language given by our ancestors. We speak Konkani in our day-to-day life. Yet, we now hear a sudden demand that Marathi be made the second official language ” ironically, by a person making that very demand in Konkani!

Are we to believe that even God now understands only Marathi? Strange logic indeed, and stranger still is how easily some Goans fall for divisive ideas.

This confusion is what allows outsiders to exploit our identity ” they vandalise chapels and crosses to stir religious tension, causing Catholics and Hindus to turn against each other, only to eventually weaken us and take over, just as the British once did.

Instead of promoting our Konkani, our identity, with non-Goans and living as real sons and daughters of this land, we say our neighbour’s wife is better! Does this not sound strange? Why are we closing our eyes purposely and saying we are blind?

Konkani is not a foreign language ” it’s an Indian language. Our ancestors preserved it for the next generations, and it’s the only tool to keep all religions under one umbrella.
