Double standards in Curchorem case

The investigation into the Curchorem sex scandal is currently being handled by the Crime Branch, and several victims have come forward to file formal complaints against the main accused, Soham Sushant Naik. However, statements by some BJP leaders, including State President Damu Naik, have raised concerns. Their remarks appear confusing and, to some, suggest a softer stance. There is a growing perception that the accused may receive leniency, especially given his family’s political background. Some fear that responsibility could unfairly shift onto the victims’ families.

Critics argue that the response might have been very different if the accused had links to an opposition party. In such a scenario, there could have been stronger reactions, protests, and demands for strict action. Questions are also being raised about the silence of BJP Mahila Morcha members, who are usually vocal on issues concerning women’s safety. Their lack of response in this case has drawn attention. Overall, these developments have led to allegations of inconsistency in the party’s stance on women’s issues, with some accusing it of failing to match its public messaging with action in sensitive cases.
