Empty hearts of hatred

The world is teetering on the edge of chaos. Pope Leo XIV has sounded a grave alarm against the delusion of omnipotence that fuels aggression and blinds leaders to humanity’s needs. His appeal is simple yet profound: abandon hatred, reject violence, and serve life instead of idolising the self and money.

Messianic portrayals of political figures as saviours only deepen divisions. When leaders liken themselves to Christ—invoking betrayal and crucifixion imagery—they distort faith into hubris. True liberation lies not in demagoguery but in humility and service.

Meanwhile, the geopolitical stage grows more volatile. Iran’s tit-for-tat actions in the Red Sea, following the Hormuz blockade, threaten global trade. India faces a precarious moment with the expiry of the US waiver on Iranian oil, while China and Russia, too, will feel the shockwaves. No nation is immune from the fallout.

The Pope’s warning is not mere moral rhetoric—it is a call to action. World leaders must empty their hearts of hatred and fill their minds with life. Only then can humanity hope to triumph over evil and avert catastrophe.
