Kudos to South Goa collector

PRAXY FERNANDES, Sanquelim | 14th August, 11:50 pm

The young, dynamic, and gutsy lady Collector of South Goa deserves commendation for scrapping restrictive service timings imposed and blatantly displayed by various government offices in the South Goa Collectorate. I hope this reform also applies to the Sub-Registrar’s office.

On 21st July 2025, I applied and paid for a Marriage Teor certificate, which I was told would be ready by 12th August. When I went to collect it at around 12 noon, the dealing clerk informed me it could only be issued between 3–5 PM, as per displayed timings. My request for an exception—considering I had travelled all the way from Sanquelim —was ignored, and I was told to return at 3 PM sharp.

I sincerely urge the Collectors of both Goa districts to abolish such restrictive timings for availing services. While payment-related processes may require specific hours, collecting documents or accessing services should not depend on the convenience of government employees. Public service should prioritise the convenience of citizens.

Thank you, Collector of South Goa, for your progressive initiatives in improving public service access.
